Darling Point Apartment “Grounded in the Sky”

Graced with extensive harbour views and an abundance of natural light, this project presented a unique opportunity to custom tailor this home for a couple ready to embark on crafting their dream home.
At the core of this renovation was the re-organisation of the layout and re-structuring the hierarchy of the spaces to better suit the client’s lifestyle. As an avid entertainer, the client desired a state of the art kitchen that could be both the centre of the action or be screened from the entertaining zones. The kitchen had previously been relegated to a corner of the apartment removed from the social areas of the home. Works saw the kitchen relocated to be better connected to the living spaces, whilst clever joinery techniques, including flush mount pivot doors and concealed cavity sliders, allow the kitchen and utilities to be closed off from the entertaining spaces when required.

With 360 degree views of Sydney Harbour, the city and Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, it was imperative that the interiors of the apartment celebrate the spectacular aspect, though also create a serene sanctuary amidst the urban energy outside. Warmth, refinement, elegance, timelessness and comfort were key terms used to guide the interior. Interior selections of luxurious natural stones, generous lashings of walnut cladding and joinery, rich bespoke bronze trimmings and vintage Austrian crystal chandeliers all reference a European sense of refinement and elegance. Bronze framed windows, swathes of soft honey toned curtains and biscuit toned walls temper the intensity of the natural light that floods in. Travertine floors further soften the light and moderate the temperature within the apartment.
The furnishings scheme saw the continued melding of European refinement and Australian sensibilities. The client came to the project with a selection of favoured antique furnishings, many of which were reupholstered for new life. New furnishings were selected to imbue both elegance and comfort - giving pause amongst the rigour of the antique pieces, allowing both the antique and the contemporary to shine.
